1、 Chemical fertilizer industry
Phosphate is generally used as a water softener in cleaning agents, but in some areas, phosphate cleaning agents are regulated because the prosperity and decline cycle of algae can affect the discharge of phosphate at the watershed.
In agriculture, phosphate is one of the three main nutrients for plants and is the main component of fertilizers. The phosphate rock powder is mined from the phosphate layer of Sedimentary rock. Previously, it could be used without processing after mining, but currently, unprocessed phosphate is only used for organic farming. Generally, it is chemically processed into calcium superphosphate, heavy Superphosphate or Ammonium dihydrogen phosphate. Their concentration is higher than that of phosphate, and they are more easily soluble in water, so plants can absorb them quickly.
There are generally three numbers for fertilizer levels: the first refers to the amount of nitrogen, the second refers to the amount of phosphate, and the third refers to alkaline water. So a 10-10-10 fertilizer has 10% of each component, while the rest are fillers.
Phosphate in runoff from over fertilized farmland may be the cause of Eutrophication, red tide and subsequent hypoxia. This, like phosphate cleaners, can cause hypoxia in fish and other aquatic organisms.
2、 Refractory materials
Phosphates are used as binders in refractory materials. Phosphate binder is a refractory material binder with acidic orthophosphate or condensed phosphate as the main compound and adhesive properties.
The binding form of phosphate binders belongs to chemical reaction binding or polymerization binding. Most of the binders produced by the reaction of phosphoric acid with alkali metals or alkali earth metal oxides and their hydroxides are gas hardening binders, which can undergo condensation and hardening at room temperature without heating.
Most of the binders made by the reaction of phosphoric acid with amphoteric oxides, hydroxides or Acidic oxide are thermosetting binders, that is, they must be heated to the corresponding temperature to react before they can produce condensation and hardening. Phosphate is widely used as a binder for amorphous and unburned refractory materials due to its strong bonding strength in the medium to low temperature range before ceramic bonding occurs.
3、 Food industry
According to the United States Food Chemical Pharmacopoeia (FCC), phosphates can be classified into 15 categories in the food industry:
1. Sour agent: phosphoric acid;
2. Anti caking agent: calcium phosphate;
3. Antioxidant: Hypophosphorous acid;
4. Buffer: Diammonium phosphate, Ammonium dihydrogen phosphate, Dicalcium phosphate, calcium phosphate, Calcium pyrophosphate, Monopotassium phosphate, Dipotassium phosphate, Disodium pyrophosphate, Monosodium phosphate, disodium hydrogen phosphate, sodium phosphate, Tetrasodium pyrophosphate;
5. Dough improver: Diammonium phosphate, Ammonium dihydrogen phosphate, Monocalcium phosphate, Dicalcium phosphate;
6. Emulsifier: Tripotassium phosphate, polyvinylidene Tripotassium phosphate, potassium pyrophosphate, sodium Aluminium phosphate phosphate (alkaline), sodium metaphosphate (insoluble), Monosodium phosphate, disodium hydrogen phosphate, sodium polyphosphate (glassy), Tetrasodium pyrophosphate;
7. Hardener: Monocalcium phosphate;
8. Humectant: polyvinylidene Tripotassium phosphate;
9. Fermentation starter: Diammonium phosphate, Ammonium dihydrogen phosphate, Disodium pyrophosphate, phosphorus
